Warszawa Singera: Jewish CultureWarszawa Singera is a 2-week celebration of Jewish culture with music, theatrical performances, film screenings, literary discussions, workshops, poetry readings, visual arts & a fair. It pays tribute to Yiddish legends such as Isaak Beshevis (Nobel Prize-winning author), international icons like free-jazz trumpet virtuoso Tomasz Stańko, Yiddish folk cantor Yaacov Lemmer, “Les Misérables” Broadway star Dudu Fisher, jazz composer Ron Davis & gospel singer Joshua Nelson. Theatrical events include classic plays such as “Yentl” and modern dramatizations by famed Polish directors. The culminating event is an outdoor extravaganza sponsored by Fundaja Shalom at the Jewish Theatre, Teatr Żydowski, on Grzybowski Square in the heart of Warsaw Poland. |

Warszawa Singera is a Jewish culture festival with Yiddish legends, jazz & classical music, modern theatre, literature and film. There’s a funky Jewish market fair on Próżna Street and a free outdoor extravaganza on Grzybowski Square, with classical, choir and big band concerts + Jewish gospel by singers like Joshua Nelson and appearances by Polish pop-jazz sensations such as Kayah. It’s organized by Fundaja Shalom and Teatr Żydowski on Plac Grzybowski in central Warsaw – 400 meters from the Palace of Science and Culture.
Discover workshops on literature, poetry, Hebrew paper-cutting, calligraphy and Yiddish language; discuss with friends “In Mother Sonia’s kitchen” while actors deliver quirky songs, and meet authors at The Jewish Literary Saloon. There’s space for Jewish humour, with events like Israel’s Habima National Theatre puppet show, and a fun feature: “Ask the Rabbi” at the Nożyk Synagogue (headgear required). Film screenings offer movies like “Triumph of the Spirit” with Willem Dafoe, and afternoon dance parties feature tangos by Jewish composers.
Warsaw Singer Festival has a delicious afternoon of “Aromas and tastes of Jewish Cuisine” for exchanging traditional recipes, learning kosher rules and savouring treats on the square in front of the Jewish Theatre amidst Polish, Jewish and Hebrew folk songs.
