Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Australia’s biggest cultural event and a world-leading comedy laugh-riot, considered to be more fun than Edinburgh Fringe and more relaxed for comedians; with 4-weeks, 6,000+ performances and 2,000+ comedians, local and international, and the worlds leading comedians!
The laughs aren’t limited to the Aussie comedy capital, the Roadshow takes a rotating cast of international and local talent and brings it to every corner of Australia, then when it’s done it takes on Asia, with Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Penang playing host for the final leg of the journey.
New talent is sought out every year with some major comedy showdowns:
Raw Comedy takes emerging talent with 1000+ contestants throughout major Australian cities and the finalists go head to head in Melbourne, and is aired on ABC, the winner is then sent to So You Think You Are funny at the Edinburgh Fringe. Many of these winners have gone on to win in Edinburgh, proving that small events are a great place to discover talent.
Class Clowns searches Australia for the funniest high schoolers, with the Grand Final taking place in Melbourne Town Hall with celebrity comedians like Tom Gleeson, Raymond J Bartholemuez hosting the event.
Deadly Funny creates opportunities for indigenous comedians with initiative workshops and a showcase program.
Melbourne Comedy Festival is the 3rd largest laugh-off in the world!

Season & WeatherSeason: Autumn
Temperature: 14 to 24 °C
Melbourne weather in March and April is warm by day and cool at night. Remember that this time of year in the Southern Hemisphere is autumn, and although Melbourne never gets too cold, with temperatures remaining around 19°C, it can be a tad cooler and less sunny than summer, and there is a slight chance of rain. Since Melbourne Comedy Festival is primarily an indoor event, weather is not a major issue, but it may be good to take along a jacket or shawl when going out at night. |
