Free Press Summer: Houston’s Hot TicketFree Press Summer is 2 days of live multi-genre music: hip-hop, indie, folk, alt-rock, country, blues, & EDM + interactive installations for 100,000 youthful fans, with global headliners like Arctic Monkeys, Snoop Dogg, Willie Nelson, Jack White, Weezer, Vampire Weekend, The Flaming Lips, Major Lazer, Skrillex, Z-Ro, Bun B, & St. Vincent, performing across 8 stages amidst graffiti art and a skyline backdrop. What began in 2009 as a local event by Free Press Houston has exploded into FPSF - the largest music festival in the city and one of the largest parties in the state, blasting sonic vibes beyond the concrete columns of highway I-45 and into Eleanor Tinsley Park, part of the gigantic Buffalo Bayou, in the heart of downtown Houston Texas. |

Free Press Summer - FPSF, remaining true to its roots as a showcase for Houston’s top music & art talent, expands in scope with each sweltering iteration. Eight stages, each named after a celestial body, have been graced by the likes of all-time greats like Willie Nelson, Snoop Dog, Jack White, and the Wu-Tang Clan, popular acts such as the Arctic Monkeys, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Vampire Weekend, 2Chainz, Major Lazer, Macklemore, and eccentric artists like B L A C K I E, Die Antwoord, and Gogol Bordello. The popular "Welcome to Houston" ensemble featuring hometown heroes Bun B, Z-Ro, Devin the Dude, Paul Wall, Mike Jones, and Slim Thug on stage together for thousands of enthusiastic hip-hop fans.
FPSF began in 2009, when local newspaper Free Press Houston organized a music festival for 30,000 fans, but since then not even the oppressive summer heat and humidity have deterred an expanding wild crowd of partiers from drinking & dancing in the Bayou City, as FPSF ups the ante every year, attracting as many as 100,000 revellers. Nestled between the concrete columns of highway I-45 and the lush grounds of the Buffalo Bayou Park, festival-goers move to beats and indulge in a 2-day party under the shadow of Houston’s impressive skyline with night-time fireworks, water walls, graffiti art installations, fashion events, and a fleet of food trucks with tasty eats from the city’s vibrant culinary scene spread throughout Eleanor Tinsley Park in downtown Houston.
100k fans + 100ºF temperatures = FPSF: the hottest ticket in Houston!

Season & WeatherSeason: Summer
Temperature: 35 to 43 °C
Houston weather in summer is sweltering, and FPSF is at one of the hottest times of the year. Prepare for high heat and humidity, and remember to stay hydrated. Typical attire includes bikini tops, tanks, shorts, and sunglasses. The festival is held rain or shine, and rain is usually around the corner in Houston. Sunglasses and sunscreen are absolutely required. Many festival-goers bring a blanket with them and camp out on the grassy hills to cool down and recover. |
