FARR Festival: Woodland Party

FARR Festival is an underground woodland party for guests of the Farr family who open their forest and fields to a few revellers (about 2,000 who happen to buy tickets) for four days in July. Debuting in 2010, and evolving into one of the UK’s most alluring boutique festivals, it retains the essence of a secret gathering, with drum and bass, techno-house and world-class DJs in an intimate atmosphere. Line-ups have included Ewan Pearson (of Fabric & Space Ibiza fame), Andrew Weatherall (techno-Balearic mixes), Jackmaster (disco-house-techno), Mount Kimbie, Scuba, The Skints, and Gentleman’s Dub Club (reggae infusions of Croatia beach and boat party fame). Yet FARR is near, just an hour from London, at Bygrave Woods in Hertfordshire England.

About

FARR Festival: Woodland Party

FARR is one of the UK’s small, intimate, family-run boutique festivals that began as a party for Farr family friends, but became a popular event on the summer festival circuit. Its allure is due in part to the location, being only an hour from central London yet set amidst the Hertfordshire countryside, more specifically, at the private Bygrave Wood with its magical forest where all-night woodland parties unfurl amidst twinkling lights and electronic rhythms by some of Europe’s top DJs. That’s one of the element that’s earned it a noteworthy place amongst summertime UK music festivals – world-class line-ups on 4 stages (plus the Red Bull Music Truck).

FARR Festival Stages

Main Stage, situated atop a hill with intense sound systems & lighting, delivers headline acts that have included Jackmaster, Mount Kimbie, The Skints, Hercules & Love Affair, Gentleman’s Dub Club and Ame. The Flying Circus is a bigtop where anything goes like Bicep, Optimo and Horse Meat Disco. The Fox Hole is the woodland party stage with tree-quivering bass by the likes of dBridge, Marcus Intalex, Skeptical, Channel One, Tudor Lion, and Waze & Odyssey. The Badger Hole hosts another woodland party with guests like Scuba, George FitzGerald, Andrew Weatherall, Daniel Avery, and Alfresco Disco. The Love Lounge is a plush naughty nighttime theatre and sexy party house with performances like The Sweet Harlots and Secret Set from XXXX.

FARR is an intimate woodland party with top DJs in a forest not far from London!

Farr Forest

  • Farr forest = Bygrave Woods, an uninhabited orchard for wild animals.

Caravan-Stage

Once-upon-a-time (in 2009) within the woodland, a shack (in other words a ramshackle caravan) was discovered, and converted into a stage to form the hub of a small gathering. This is what would eventually become the edgy, independent, electronic music, boutique festival known as FARR.

Woodland Dancing

The caravan-stage is now defunct, but multiple stages and tents have taken its place so that every July a couple thousand friends can dance, dance and dance, amidst twinkling lights on the trees of Bygrave Woods.

Forest Theme Costumes

Pack some FARR OUT wear – a costume that has a forest theme or a touch of magic. Think woodland elf, nymph, something with a psychedelic retro feel or disco glam, even peace-love & flower power. Remember it’s an 18+ event where sensuous and sexy blends beautifully with the mischievous woodland party background.
