Dour Festival: 17hr Music X 5 Days

It’s one of Europe’s greatest outdoor parties – a massive music festival that’s been celebrated since 1989, attracting the planet’s hottest rock, punk, pop, metal, alternative, hip-hop, R&B, reggae, dub and indie bands as well as techno, house, drum & bass DJs and electronic producers from around the world. Dour Festival pulsates day and night with 200 bands and DJs performing 17 hours a day during 5 days (from noon till 5am) on seven gigantic stages for 230,000 motley fans who seek booming beats - everything from Band of Skulls and Blood Red Shoes to Boys Noize, Bonobo and Addison Groove. Amidst sonic vibrations, there’s Belgian beer, global treats, a barbeque island, and camping at Plaine de la Machine à Feu near Dour in Hainaut Belgium.

About

Dour Festival: 17hr Music X 5 Days

It won the European best medium-sized festival award, but it’s scarcely a medium-sized party with 230,000 revellers at a gargantuan ex-industrial mining site. It’s one of the summer’s most musically diverse events with everything from metal to reggae, plus camping, beer and lots of tasty treats.

Seven Stages of Dour

Dour Festival revolves around music, which explains why it has seven stages that play seventeen hours of music per day over five days. Last Arena has featured headliners like Mac Miller, Soulfly, Blood Red Shoes, Bonobo, Cypress Hill & Phoenix while the Dance Hall resonates with trip-hop, electro-funk & power pop with acts such as Chromeo and Little Dragon plus techno-house with greats like Theo Parrish. Jupiler Boombox booms with rap & hip-hop via Gentleman and The Evolution, L’Entourage, Tyler the Creator and Freddie Gibbs. La Petite Maison Dans La Prairie has featured some not very ‘petite’ performances by Mount Kimbie, Klaxons, Mogwai, Band Of Skulls and Maxïmo Park. Cannibal Stage has savage punk rock by groups like Punish Yourself and metal-thrash with Channel Zero, Kreator, Mad Caddies, Fuck Buttons, Trash Talk & Sick Of It All. De red Bull Elektropedia Balzaal hosts an encyclopaedia of electronic sounds from Moodymann & Tale of Us to Raving George & MC GQ. The Dub Corner of course has roots, ska and reggae with appearances by The Dukes Of SKAzzard and King Shiloh soundsystem.

Dour Festival is 17 hours of motley music on 7 stages at an ex-mine site in Belgium!

4 Features of Dour Festival

Festival de Dour, as they say in French, is a massive outdoor summer party with widely diverse music. Its amazing line-ups, unique location, excellent on-site amenities, and spacious camping facilities, have made it an award winning event.

1. Music & Stages – Rock Metal to Electro Dance Reggae

Dour Music Festival is about music. And the variety of genres on 7 stages satisfies nearly every taste. The Dour Festival lineup includes industrial punk and metal bands, hard rock and pop-rock groups, dance beats by top DJs / producers as well as roots, ska and reggae sound systems. The Dour Festival programme is spread across five days with around two hundreds acts performing seventeen hours a day! (That’s why there are free earplugs on-site!)

2. Location - Plaine de la Machine à Feu Dour

Dour Plaine de la Machine à Feu is a singular spot, an old mine site in the Wallonia region, within the province of Hainaut, an area that was once part of Belgium’s industrial core. (BTW, Dour Belgium isn’t a city, just a small francophone community with about 16,000 inhabitants.)

3. Great Amenities

Since Dour Fest has been held since 1989 (albeit for just one day and gradually increasing to four), the amenities at the site keep getting better and better. Today there are oodles of international food and drink stalls, free lockers, toilets, showers, places to charge mobile phones, cash machines, security, medical and places to chill out when you’re partied out!

4. Dour Tickets + Camping

Ticket flexibility allows you to choose to camp or not, to stay in the boutique camping zone at the Flexotel Village or in one of the Festihuts, or find something on your own. But all 5-day tickets come with free access to the official Dour Festival shuttle buses that pick-up at the nearby train station and go direct to the festival grounds.
