Chicago Comic Expo is the mid-west’s answer to fandom; taking place in North America’s largest convention centre, McCormick Place and playing host to some big names like Marvel, Star Wars, DC, Dark Horse and IDW, all of whom will gather at The Block, along with the tastemakers, trend setters, artists and thinkers. The fans get a chance to become the attraction at this event, by joining in on the monumentally impressive outfits, from life-like transformers to whichever costume is most popular in pop culture that year; finding that highly sought after and rare comic; or winning at the videogame or tabletop gaming area, and of course the most coveted position goes to the winner of the Crown Championships of Cosplay.

Who turns up?

Alongside every superhero-clad-fan you could imagine, there are some real-life ones too, with talks and signings from a mix of comic spotlight stars such as Deadpool and Wonder Woman writer Gail Simone; Batman artist David Finch; Hack/Slash and G.I Joe artists Tim Seeley and multiple appearances from the legend, Stan Lee. Previous Spotlight stars are some of the biggest in the galaxy with Batman series actor Adam West; Thor actor Christ Hemsworth; Doctor Who; The Walking Dead actors Steven Yeun and Lauren Cohan; Game of Thrones actress Natalie Dormer; Agent Carter actress Hayley Atwell and the most of the cast of Orphan Black.

Mingle with the Artists

Artist Alley embraces the comic roots, where fans can mingle with writers and artists on the show floor, with over 250 tables, this is not an exclusive club – the show gives artists a chance to sign themselves up and showcase their own work, and the badge includes its own three day pass to have a look around. Fans are encouraged to stop by tables and have a chat about artists work, giving them a break from their current commission or work, or just telling them what they like to see!
