3 Unique Features of Blissfields

It’s quirky and small enough to be intimate, has great stages without forgetting about cosy nooks to chill, and is a festival where families can go together. Adults can enjoy moments of grown-up bliss while kids can participate at Angel Gardens, Activistz Kidz Club, the Craft Area and explore science and invention at Amoeba to Zebra.

1. Cosy, Quaint & Quirky

Blissfields, on Vicarage Farm, is warm & cosy (in temperature and friendliness), sunny & mud-free (to date it hasn’t rained during the festival – since 2001), in a lush, green Hampshire Victorian country setting with woodlands and grassy open spaces (just a few kilometres from Winchester city and only about an hour from London), small enough to walk from start to finish in a few minutes, organized like an Alice in Wonderland garden party (including a shisha lounge where any hookah-smoking caterpillar would be happy to light up an herbal pipe), and peppered with funky tents & stages, an independent film festival (at least it’s trying to become one…), a beer fest with designer brews, and loads of silly-fun events, quirky stalls replete with waffles, ice-cream, old-fashioned lemonade & carnival candy floss, plus vegan treats and… boutique camping including replicated African-tribal canvas tents and luxury yurts.

2. Sound Stages & Blissful Bubble Bus

It may be one of the cosiest UK summer festivals, but the sound resonating from its stages is anything but small-time, in fact the Wild Stage & the Hustle Den have been graced by the Dub Pistols, the Gentleman’s Dub Club, Sleigh Bells, 2ManyDJs, Kidnap Kid, Mystery Jets, Bastille, Dreadzone, Jake Bugg, King Charles, Bigtopp and Frank Turner, amongst many others. The Larch, the acoustic stage and the Hidden Hedge don’t play backseat to acts appearing on larger stages at British music festivals, but deliver an eclectic line-up including irreverent folk guitarist Beans On Toast, the retro-electro-psychedelic-pop group The Hall of Mirrors, Nick Tann, Electric Swing Circus, Espai, Science of Eight Limbs, The Stain Pierre Snake Invasion and Mary Miss Fairy. And while most UK summer festivals have stages or tents with electronic music and dance beats, Blissfields has taken their electro vibe one step further with the Blisscotheque featuring producers like Monki, Polyclone, BITR8 and a long list of seriously fun DJs for partying in a pulsing, double-decker Bubble Bus club.

3. One of the Best Small UK Music Festivals - for families

Blissfields has been around since 2001, but the first year it was …mmmm… a big party with bonfires and a line-up of Mel Bliss’ friends, but by 2007, with headliners like The Material Archive, Silent Rush, Nigel Clark, Skuba, The True Deceivers, Dead! Dead! Dead! and of course Scouting for Girls…Blissfields wasn’t just any old quirky party in a Hampshire glade but the winner of Best Small Festival at the UK Festival Awards.

Over the years, Blissfields has managed to accommodate more fans yet retain the warm atmosphere and deliver excellent music, but it’s heading more in the direction of being a child-friendly family-oriented event than a hedonistic wild party zone for adult debauchery.
