Beat-Herder: Beats, Eats & BarsBeat-Herder is an eccentric boutique festival that’s been luring guests since 2006 with quirky & funky spaces like a castle Fortress, Toil Trees for dancing in the woods, a House Of Existence tavern, a Shisha Lounge, a Perfumed Garden with DJs, and Hotel California. The Beat-Herder Stage quivers with an eclectic lineup from Django Django & Booka Shade to Afro Celt Sound System & The Gentlemen’s Dub Club, while the festival grounds is a magical party-land replete with a Sword in The Stone, a 1970s Working Men’s Club, a Bushrocker dance-music arena & The Snug for soulful funk. BH is wrapped in a carnivalesque non-conformist atmosphere for a sensory feast of eats, treats, bars & beats at Dockber Farm in the Ribble Valley of Lancashire England. |

Beat-herder is 3 days of quirky fun in a carnival atmosphere that’s independent, non-conformist, with great beats, eats, bars, shops, magic nooks (even a sword & stone) and a vibe shaped by indie, rock, roots and Leftfield-style electronic sound on more than a dozen stages, tents & secret zones at Dockber Farm.
It may be a boutique event for just 5,000 fans, but it’s one of the best UK summer festivals for dancing in the woods to bass-techno-jungle beats by producers like “Eats Everything”, downtempo-trip-hopping with Mr. Scruff, or trippin on roots by Macka B & the Raga Roots Band… while sipping a little something-something from Mikey’s Tea Shack. It’s a great place for Bloody Beetroots, soul-waxing with 2ManyDJs & raving in a castle courtyard with bass & breakbeats by Deekline, Anne Savage & The ASBO Disco.
Get rooty at Bushrocker Arena with roots-rock-reggae & dub, nest in the House of Existence or stroll into a ‘70s Working Men’s Club for a sassy Hanky Panky Burlesque Revue.
Dance till you drop then crash in the Trailer Trash Big Top amidst rockabilly-funk-reggae, or chill with downbeat vibes at the Smoky Tentacles sheesha lounge.
Get soulful in The Snug, go cowboy at Hotel California or join the gospel choir at the Parish Church. It’s all possible at Beat-Herder!

The Beat Herder organizers pay attention to every detail from hand crafted stages & quirky trader stalls to lounging zones with ambient lighting amidst a pop-up metropolis.
Despite being one of the smaller UK festivals, Beat Herder delivers top British & international headliners as well as underground alternative bands, groups with a cultish following and performances by retro and roots artists. Aside from the acts that appear on the main open-air stage, there are live acoustic concerts in intimate spaces as well as funky areas for DJ sets that belt out a heady blend of dance beats – which means that the Beat Herder grounds are veritably peppered with stages, tents, lounges, bars, music houses, chill zones, places to go wild and others to relax; more than a dozen areas for performances, dancing, eating, drinking and activities, each with a quirky name and flavour all its own.
Since Beat-Herder Festival began in 2006, the line-ups have included unique acts and headliners such as Dreadzone, Eat Static, Black Futures, Skinny Sumo, Los Guys, MC Saizmundo, The Pipers, Seven Hours, Beat Milk Jugs, Catch it Kebabs, Andrew Weatherall, numerous appearances by the Dub Pistols, Utah Saints, The Whip, Zion Train, Buen Chico, Reverend And The Makers, Beardyman, Alphadrive, New Age Syndrome, Shoshin, The Loungs, Biscuithead and the Biscuit Badgers, Filthy Dukes, The Ragamuffins, The Young Punx, Chew Lips, Django Django, Jilted Generation, King Charles, The Lancashire Hotpots, Benji Boko, Leftfield, Pete And The Pirates, The Selecter, Afro Celt Sound System, Gentleman’s Dub Club, Jake Bugg, Booka Shade, Clean Bandit, The Other Tribe, Sugarbeat Club, Groove Armada, Dub Mafia, Sound Assembly, Happy Mondays, The Bloody Beetroots, Boney M, Dub Phizix, Anne Savage, 2ManyDjs, Deekline, Eats Everything, Father Funk, The 2 Bears, The Correspondents, Hot Since 82, Gramatik, Chic and Jagwar Ma, amongst many others.
Saturday is a Fancy Dress night, so don’t forget to pack something dressy, sexy, sassy or silly like a costume, wig or even just some face paint. The fancy dress theme changes each year and is based on a single letter of “Beat-Herder”, a letter to inspire festival-goer’s creative imaginations without influencing costume possibilities.

AccommodationCaravan – Live-in Vehicle PassTent camping is free, or rather, included in the ticket price, but caravan campers must buy a special “Live in Vehicle Pass” that costs a little extra. Check out BeatHerder Tickets to book caravan camping. Note: If you’re arriving with a vehicle of any kind and wish to park, remember that parking isn’t included in the standard ticket price. Make sure to buy a Beat Herder Car Park Pass in advance. Beat-Herder Boutique Camping - Pre-erected Tents, Tips & YurtsAlthough regular camping is included in the Beat Herder ticket price, there’s an option to enjoy the events in VIP luxury without having to bring your own tent or bedding by booking a pre-erected tent, tipi or yurt. Yes, it costs extra – in the neighbourhood of £450- £600, but since they accommodate anywhere from 2-6 people, the cost can be shared with friends! Camping Under the StarsBeat-Herder boutique camping pre-erected canvas tents, tipis & funky yurts are all handmade through Camping Under the Stars.
Choose a pre-erected canvas bell tent that’s 4 metres in size, which sleeps up to four people, or one that measures 5 meters and sleeps up to six people.
There are also large festival tipis that sleep up to six people and fabulous handcrafted yurts for 4- 6 people or cosy yurts for two.
The Beat-Herder Camping Under the Stars boutique tents, tipis & yurts come fully equipped with beds & bedding (including sheets, pillows and duvets) as well as lighting, and are all pre set-up in a private field on the beat-herder festival grounds that’s exclusive to boutique campers. The boutique camping site comes with all necessary facilities including private showers & toilets.

Help Heat-Herder Stay IndependantAlthough everything you’ll need is available on-site, and you don’t ‘have to’ haul a lot of stuff if you don’t want to, and there’s loads of yummy local food stalls, bars with cold beer and funky places to get alcoholic beverages and snacks, festival organizers allow guests to bring in as much food and alcohol into the campsite as they want. That said, Beat-Herder is independent, and the organizers would really like it to continue that way, so they hope festival-goers will buy at least some of their eats and drinks on-site. |

Bring colourful waterproof raingear like boots, wellies, a windbreaker, jumper, jacket, extra socks and whatever you need to stay dry. Remember, the farm isn’t immune to mud. |
