Bilbao BBK Live is one of Spain’s largest summer festivals with three days of chart-topping international rock, metal, pop and electronic music headliners attracting crowds of up to 40,000 per day to a park atop Mount Cobetas overlooking the city of Bilbao in the northern province of Biscay - Basque Country (between the Cantabrian Mountains and the Pyrenees, about 1.5 hours from Pamplona). The festival site, Kobetamendi park, includes two outdoor stages, a DJ tent, food stalls, bars, shops, and an enormous tree-filled camping zone on nearby Monte Arraiz about a kilometre from the main grounds, with space for 20,000 campers.
Since its debut in 2006 (with Ben Harper, Guns N’ Roses and Latin Grammy-winner Andrés Calamaro), BBK Live has edged its way into the European festival circuit (nominated for Best Medium-Sized European Festival by the European Festivals Awards) by featuring headliners like Iron Maiden, Metallica, The Police, ZZ Top, R.E.M., Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fito & Fitipaldis, Lenny Kravitz, Depeche Mode, Jane’s Addiction, Primal Scream, Pearl Jam, Faith No More, Cold Play, Suede, The Chemical Brothers, The Cure, Radiohead, Garbage, Mumford & Sons, Kings of Leon, Green Day, Franz Ferdinand, Phoenix, The Prodigy, The Black Keys, Band of Horses and Spain’s digital sound master John Talabot.
The festival is known as BBK due to its sponsor Bilbao Bizkaia Kutxa Bank.
BBK Live music festival rocks a Basque Country mountaintop overlooking Bilbao!
Five features that make Bilbao BBK Live Festival unique:
A huge attraction of BBK is the location of the main festival grounds at the top of Monte Cobetas, in Kobetamendi park with views of Bilbao city below. It’s a stunning site, just minutes from the vibrant city, yet surrounded by 46 acres of protected parkland; a lush natural ambiance and enough space for 40,000 fans who attend each day.
BBK Live has two giant outdoor stages for live rock headliners, a dance music/DJ tent, a rock-pop area, a chill zone plus lots of food stalls & “baras” that serve eats and drinks.
The BBK Bilbao camping zone is a space all its own – on another mountain called Monte Arraiza, which is quiet and about a kilometre from the main Monte Cobetas site. There’s a forest and open space for tents, plus the organizers set up portable toilets, showers and places for campers to buy food and drinks. It’s an eco-friendly area certified as Green ‘n’ Clean by The European Festival Association, and accommodates 20,000 campers. What’s great is that it’s possible to camp there for two extra days and thereby turn the festival into a 5-day holiday for the same price.
Although it’s a summer festival in Spain, BBK isn’t about Spanish or Latin music. Last Tour, the organizers of BBK Live, put together annual line-ups that deliver a variety of music ranging from heavy metal and hard rock to pop-rock and electronic sounds by top artists from around the world.
The festival has become so successful, and attracts so many foreign fans, that the city of Bilbao hosts a two-day pre-festival programme at theatres and funky places within the historic Basque capital that includes unusual concerts & recitals that blend local talent, even choral music, with adaptations of metal, rock and electronic themes based on the styles of guest artists who will perform at the festival.

AccommodationBBK CampingTent camping is part of the BBK festival experience, but due to the location of the campgrounds, which is on another mountaintop called Monte Arraiza, and also a protected natural park, caravans, RVs, trailers and cars aren’t allowed near the festival site or camping area. Vehicle parking is available at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC), about 7 km away, accessible via the free BBK shuttle buses from BEC / Ansio Metro Station & Kobetamendi festival grounds. Camping CostThe difference between camping and not camping at BBK is just a few euros – a nominal fee the organizers charge to help cover the costs of developing camping facilities and access to the eco-friendly zone.
