2000 Trees: Intimate Underground

2000 Trees Festival focuses on new and underground British music, delivering hot acts on 4 stages over 3 days to an audience of 5,000 indie-rock fans who appreciate the intimate atmosphere of the Cotswold Hills. Since 2007, it’s become an award winning grass roots event, short-listed as a best small festival, and renowned for its comfy campsite with Glamping (Belltents and Gypsy Bowtop caravans), yummy eats & local lagers, ciders & ales. But 2000 Trees is first about the music, with headliners like Brian James, Frank Turner, British Sea Power, The King Blues, Bombay Bicycle Club, And So I Watch You From Afar, Frightened Rabbit, Dry The River & King Charles, and second about the ambiance on Upcote Farm near Cheltenham in Gloucestershire UK.

About

2000 Trees: Intimate Underground

2000 Trees is an independent, intimate 3-day festival amidst the Cotswold Hills. It maintains its personal atmosphere by limiting attendance to 5,000, and although it’s geared toward adults (16+), it’s child friendly with a family campsite. Along with about a hundred of Britain’s hottest indie, rock, metal, roots, folk, pop, electronic & underground headliners, 2000 Trees tickets include 2 nights of on-site camping (and a third day for early bird ticket holders – no campervans, but there are funky yurts for hire) as well as access to eats from trader stalls and local specialties like lagers and ciders, plus comedy and an alfresco silent disco (so revellers can meander the grounds until 3am with headphones while DJs do their thing on stage).

Awards, Stages & Related Festivals

Despite being a small event, around since 2007, and being known for cheap weekend tickets, organizer Andy Rea & partners have made 2000 Trees a success, winning UK Festival Awards for best Grass Roots Festival, being shortlisted for Best Small Festival (4 years running) and honoured as a finalist of Fans’ Favourite Festival. 2000 Trees events unfold on four stages: Tree House, The Cave, Leaf Lounge and Greenhouse on Upcote Farm near Cheltenham in Gloucestershire, but if that’s not enough partying, it’s possible to combine 2000 Trees Festival with ArcTanGent at Fernhill Farm near Bristol & Y Not Festival at Pikehall in Derbyshire.

2000 Trees is independent and intimate rock-indie-roots music in the Cotswolds!

Hills, Intimacy & Music

The three main features of 2000 Trees are:

  • Setting - in the rolling Cotswold Hills.
  • Atomosphere - intimate & laidback.
  • Music - underground British rock & indie.

Alt-Metal to Folk-Punk-Rock

Since 2000 Trees began in 2007, some of the initial headliners have included artists such as the alternative metal band from Essex InMe, folk-punk-rock artists like Frank Turner and guitarist Brian James plus post-hard-core, progressive metal-core & indie bands like Brigade, The Voom Blooms, Devil Sold His Soul, Goldrush and quirky indie stars like Piney Gir.

Psychobilly-Gothabilly-Garage-Punk

When 2000 Trees says they feature unusual underground talent, they deliver, with indie groups like Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster who describe themselves as psychobilly-gothabilly-garage-punk and art-wave-indie rockers Art Brut and the ukulele ska-folk-punk rock band called King Blues. Other groups that made it onto the first 2000Trees line-ups included The Duke Spirit, These New Puritans, Future of the Left, Slaves to Gravity, and hard-core punk rockers The Ghost of a Thousand and the Irish MTV- Spanking New- winners In Case of Fire.

Bombay Bicycle Club - Three Trapped Tigers

Two Thousand Tress headliners have included Bombay Bicycle Club, Blood Red Shoes, Tall Ships, The Bronx, DZ Deathrays, Sonic Boom Six, 65daysofstatic, Frightened Rabbit, Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, Turbowolf, Devil Sold His Soul, Dry the River, Dog Is Dead, Max Raptor, Mystery Jets, We Are the Ocean, King Charles, Fight Like Apes, Band of Skulls, Kids in Glass Houses, Johnny Foreigner, Trash Talk and Three Trapped Tigers.

Capturing Sounds & Sharing

Over the years, aside from welcome repeat performances by Frank Turner, Tubelord, The King Blues, InMe, And So I Watch You From Afar, Maybeshewill, 65daysofstatic, Pulled Apart By Horses, Frightened Rabbit, and Rolo Tomassi, for the most part, the annual two thousand trees line-ups have been a lists of new, bizarre or less-known rock-indie bans. Upcote Farm stages have seen genre-bending innovators like British Sea Power, Fightstar, Red Light Company, Wild Beasts, Attack! Attack!, The Chapman Family, SixNationState and Godsized, and although some of these groups are no longer around, they left their mark, and 2000 Trees captured their sounds and shared them with fans.

2000 Trees Camping & Glamping

Camping is included with the ticket price - BYO tent-type camping - for 2 days, plus a small extra cost if you want to come a day early. Although the festival is geared more to adults, there is a designated family camping zone. Ahhh... but you don’t have to camp the hard way. At 2000 Trees it’s possible to choose ‘glamping’ - as the name suggests: glamour camping, although it’s not included in the standard ticket price.
